![]() That way i can play through The First World War's Western Front from 1st day to last, then play through The Mediterranean Theater in same way with CoH 3, and The Western and Eastern Fronts of European Theater from 41 to 45 i believe for The Second World War. Im unsure if Men of War 2 has similar feature but ill be playing that as well. In TGW:WF its called Theater Commander and Field Commander, same idea as Army General, control both the big picture war effort, then when you actually want to control the real time battle you take over field command. Im really looking forward to playing through The Great War:Western Front, CoH 3 as i know they both have Strategic and Tactical command. I agree I think Warno has supreme potential, i just got into this genre but cant wait for Army General campaigns for as historical accurate WW3 as possible. The Soviet campaign of CoH2 is one of the worst single player pieces of content I've ever experienced in an RTS. That said, I'd hardly say CoH2 has a good single player, unless you just skirmish with the AI endlessly. I'd say the weakest SP of the bunch is MoW / CtA / GEM games, the AI is just abysmal, but you can mod it into shape pretty easily. Almost all have robust single player offerings, a lot of these games are ONLY single player. Only one of these games is anything like CoH, and that's Iron Harvest, but I think every game I listed is pretty dope and has a lot to offer fans of tactics and strategy. Total War series, Close Combat series, GG War in the East games, Panzercorps series, Company of Heroes 1 (I assume you play 2), Battle of Empires 1914-1918, Faces of War, Theatre of War, etc etc etc. I'm just gonna spam a bunch of other games without explanations to close this out. If The Troop is the best TBT game, this is the best stealth / real time tactics game I've played. Basically a different take on the Eugen game formula. Neither are out, though Regiments has a playtest active atm. Focuses on the UK / Commonwealth forces and their involvement in the invasion of Normandy. Quite possibly the best turn based tactics game I've ever played. Excellent little wargame series, very easy to learn but has more than enough depth to keep you challenged. Grand strategy, absolutely nothing like CoH, but a based series none the less. I'm a huge SD fan and I enjoy Wargame RD and WARNO as well. Incredibly detailed battle sim with a more micro scale than GT typically, you have more control over your units, feels almost like a hyper-realistic version of Wargame / Steel Division.Įugen games, which includes Wargame, WARNO, Steel Division, etc. Your units actually have intelligent AI, very nice change of pace.Ĭombat Mission series. Very high learning curve, nothing like CoH, but amazing. Has a direct control gimmick where you can take over units entirely, tends to be focused on smaller squads of infantry and scattered armor assets. Men of War / Call to Arms (Ostfront, basegame CtA is garbage)/ GEM Engine games. I don't like it as much as CoH, but I do enjoy it. Has mechanics and features ripped straight out of CoH. It's essentially like CoH but in a post WW1 dieselpunk setting. This is BY FAR the closest thing to what you're probably looking for. I'll go ahead and recommend some of my favorite games, but don't expect any of them to play like CoH: I wouldn't really call CoH a tactical game, nor would I say it's at all similar to the wargame genre.
